- Video is a viable and beneficial research and literacy tool. “Although we did not always talk about the value of media texts and the role played by the video camera, participants were aware that it was there, that it was on, and that it afforded them (and me) an opportunity to be heard when they felt otherwise ignored in the larger, more public conversations going on around urban gentrification.” It allowed them to analyze body language, to look back at interviews and recordings to be more self-reflexive, to nuance the narratives. “Digital technologies hold the promise of opening up possibilities that include the creation and widespread exchange of stories…It can be highly beneficial if more and more educational researchers and practitioners embrace such technological possibilities, especially in our engagements with young people.”
- Youth have voice and ideas. Given the opportunity, they can do amazing things.
